Motorola Defy + (Plus) Specifications and Price

There was a time when pagers were in vogue and Motorola was having a similar stature as Apple now has. Gone are those days, today we do not find Motorola being on top of any list. There are rumors that search giant Google is planning to buy Motorola for a whopping 12 billion dollars. With its android smartphones and tablets Motorola is trying to make its mark again in phone market. With its android smartphone Defy Motorola proved that it can still produce gold even amidst fierce android smartphone market. Motorola Defy + (plus) is successor of Motorola Defy. As Motorola Defy is a worldwide success it is a good move from Motorola to introduce Motorola Defy Plus which is beefed up version of earlier device.

Motorola Defy Plus | Water Resistant Smartphone

Motorola Defy is an industry first mobile, it is the first android smartphone which is water resistant without being ridiculously large and ugly. Now lets see what Motorola Defy Plus has got what its successor was lacking.

Water Resistance

As being water resistant is Motorola Defy Plus’s USP, lets see how well it does its job. I think a picture will better do the job of describing this feature

As motorola Defy Plus is having similar water resistant feature, Defy Plus will remain as rugged as its predecessor is. You can take Defy Plus under water up to 1 meter deep for 30 minutes without damaging it. As such this phone is not designed for underwater shooting or something yet this much of water resistance guarantees you that a minor spill of water will never harm your precious phone.

Hardware

There is an upgrade in processing speed of next generation Defy Plus. Defy Plus now has a 1 GHz TI OMAP 3620 processor. Surprisingly this increased processing speed is not matched by an upgraded RAM. RAM of Defy Plus is 512 MB as it is with Defy. Besides this Defy Plus will house a 2 GB internal memory out of which 1.25 GB will be available for user applications and data. Off course you can upgrade this memory with a microSD card of upto 32 GB.

Display

Motorola Defy used a capacitive TFT multitouch screen, which is not the best in market and hopes are not high it being any better for new Defy Plus. As such Defy Plus’s display should not be a downer as it is vibrant and has high pixel density 3.7” FWVGA, 854×480 pixels display. Display screen is made up of Gorilla Glass which makes its scratch proof.

Camera

Defy Plus has a decent 5 mega pixel auto focus camera. There is also LED flash light which is handy when you are shooting in dark conditions. Quality of camera is pretty good and you can take nice photographs in most light conditions. Auto focus of the camera is snappy and does its job well. Unfortunately there is no secondary camera, which is a must have if you are using 3G speed internet for video calling.

Connectivity and Networking

Defy Plus is a 3G phone which supports Dual-band WCDMA 850/1900, Quad band 850/2100, 900/2100 and GSM 850/900/1800/1900.  With your 3G connection you will get 7.2 Mbps download speed and 2 Mbps upload speed.  Besides these Defy Plus is a class 12 EDGE and class 12 GPRS device.

Battery Backup

Motorola Defy Plus has got a 1700 mAh battery which is capable of giving you a talk time of 8 hours and 16 days of standby time. This is something good about this phone considering that it runs with a 1 GHz processor and it has Gingerbread as operating system.

Operating System

Defy Plus has Gingerbread which is latest android OS available for smartphone (remember that Honeycomb is not exactly a smartphone thing but rather a Tablet OS).  On top of Gingerbread Motorola will have its own propriety interface named MotoBlur for some reason. Not many people are fan of MotoBlur and its surprising that Motorola is still pushing it in all its latest android phones. There should be a option of having vanilla android only mobiles from all manufacturers.
