Ever Since Google first announced that Android 2.3 is not meant for tablets and it will soon be releasing an Android specially designed for tablets, there has been market speculation about the new release of Android 3.0. Google’s next tablet operating system “Honeycomb” is not 3.0 as expected but a 2.4 in line with last release Gingerbread 2.3. This rumor about the version of Android was first reported in Android & Me. The source of this rumor, as claimed by Android & Me, is a Google developer who is working on various Android development projects.Well if this is authentic news, we should not be surprised. Google has a history of changing versions of its earlier releases of Android. The much awaited Nexus S operating system ‘Gingerbread’ was supposedly release 3.0 and the next release honeycomb was expected to be 3.5.But now it seems Google is following sequential version numbering – Froyo being 2.2, Gingerbread with 2.3 and now Honeycomb will be 2.4. One more thing which should come to our mind is the release date of Honeycomb. Official availability of Honeycomb is expected to be announced at 2011 Mobile World Congress, that would be sometime in early February. The gap between Gingerbread and Honeycomb is just of 2 months , this makes us think if Honeycomb is a tablet only release ?
