Google’s engineers keep on adding new functionality to its search engine. Many of the features are well known, like Google has got inbuilt capability to check spelling mistakes. It can also suggest you words if you just know how to pronounce the word
Many Google search features are not well known, few of them are really useful. Here are few most useful Google search features
Google Calculator: This is probably least known feature of Google. Normally people just type CALC in the run box and do their calculations, but Google calculator is not just about doing simple arithmetic calculations, if used properly it offers greater flexibility than other built-in calculators. Just try to do the below calculation in your regular calculator
Google search comes very handy while looking for universal constants like value of PI. Just type the constant and Google search will return its value.
You can also get value of any trigonometric function , like
Google Search as world clock: with just one query you can get time of any place on earth. I regularly use this feature to sync my clocks.
You can get time of a particular location too
Google Search as a dictionary: If you want to search for meaning of a word, Google search is just one hand away …just type “define:<your word>” and Google will give you its meaning
Using define without colon will return top result from Google giving meaning of the word.
Currency Convertor : this is not exactly a feature of Google search , still a very useful tool from Google
Go to http://www.google.com/finance/converter , you will get a very simple interface to convert one currency into another one.
Google Search as unit converter: This is another very useful tool one can use in Google search , one can convert units from binary to decimal , can convert temperatures ,weights into different units.
Last but not the lease,Google search can be used as a weather forecasting system, initially this service was available for USA only, now it covers most of the globe. To know weather forecast for any particular location just type “weather <city name>” as shown below
