Situated over a steep mountain crest, surrounded by tea gardens and clogged by a Magnificent Himalayan panorama, the archetypical hill station of Darjeeling is truly West Bengal’s leading draw card. If you aren’t staring at Khangchendzonga (8598m), you can sightsee colonial mansions and churches, Buddhist and Hindu temples, botanical gardens and a zoo for Himalayan fauna. The steep narrow streets are crowded with colorful souvenir and handicraft shops, and a good steaming drink and excellent Indian and Tibetan fare are never far away.
